13 June 2006 - Swimming, take II

Thanx to the gorgeous weather we have been having, it was off to the pool for us on Saturday. We also managed to sneak in the camera, so finally some cool pics of Leo swimming. All I can say is watch out Thorpedo Leo is in training.

We went to Hampton open air pool, along with every other Joe Public and their granny. Man it was packed, not a spare patch of grass available. The pool was packed too, but you can’t really tell from these pictures.

It cost quite a bomb too, £6 each for Bronson and I, luckily Leo got in for free. But imagine paying R140 to go swimming in SA….ridiculous, and they wonder why the obesity rates are so high in the UK, when access to sports facilities are so expensive.

The weather has been fantastic here, in fact it got really hot by Monday, Leo’s room was 30 degrees at one stage, we ended up putting him to bed with just a nappy. Being in the sun adds a whole new dimension to looking after the little man, I have to have my factor 40 at the ready every five minutes, and not to mention his sun hat. Oh well, all good fun….rather the sun then rain and cold.

As for Leo, well he is starting to get really active these days. Rolling around and trying to worm his way around the house. He is quite bored with his toys and would rather play with cell phones or TV remote controls or anything else he can get into his paw.

Fetching him from his bed in the morning is also interesting as he ends up flipping over and rolling around. He also manages to scatter his toys all over the place. He has been sleeping quite well lately, touch wood it lasts.

This weekend we are going to see if we can get to the beach for the day, sounds easy enough, but not here. When the weather is good, 7 million Londoners have the same idea. The roads to the coast turn into a nightmare, so you have to wake up at stupid o'clock in order to get there before the roads turn into gridlock. There is also the question of decent beaches, a lot of beaches are pebbled, no good for us South Africans, they are impossible to walk on and no fun to a little chap armed with his bucket and spade, the sand beaches are very popular, compounding the traffic issue. Wish us luck…
